Payment terms, by way of example, are variables determined by suppliers and buyers that account for $4.8 trillion locked up in working capital.

Decisions require these variables to be tracked , weighed and judged. Managers, however, are often  left in the dark  because variables  aren’t quantified and their outcomes are therefore  not clear. The consequences  can be devastating.
